GameSalad has saving now!

Hello! I’ve taken a couple weeks off to visit family for the holidays, so I haven’t been working on A Princess Tale at all lately. Soon I’ll be getting the ball rolling more though. Where I last left off I did a bunch of work on the level editor in Objective-C using cocos2d, and then did a lot of game design work to figure out what the maps will look like, and what the story was like. I was going to use GameSalad, and I even bought a $99 GameSalad license, but I changed my mind about using it when I found out GameSalad didn’t support saving and loading.

But today I got an unexpected email from GameSalad saying that 0.7.0 was released and it includes saving and loading! There still seems to be no way to implement social gaming frameworks like OpenFeint into GameSalad games (which would be awesome), but saving is a huuuuge step in the right direction and makes it actually usable for developing professional iPhone games, in my opinion. The lack of saving and loading was the reason I decided to not use GameSalad, and since I’m so early in the project, I’m considering using it again. So, stay tuned and I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

Hey Micah,

Nice operation you have going here, I roflcoptered (can that be a verb?) at your trailer for Teh Internets!

We’re glad to be getting such positive feedback about GameSalad. Implementing saving and loading was a big deal, especially for games that might be played over multiple sessions. You may also be interested in some additional features we’re working on. ;) Best of luck with A Princess Tale!
